The Jane Austen Book Tag

By Angela Maria Hart

In case you don’t know by now, I LOVE Jane Austen. I think she is one of the finest writers to ever exist; all of her novels are pure magic as far as I am concerned. When I found out there was a Jane Austen book tag, I needed to answer these questions.

Sense & Sensibility: Name a book with a dynamic sibling relationship.

This prompt is very easy to answer. In “Harry Potter,” I loved the twins! Fred and George were humorous and I adored them. In the movies, the actors did them justice!

“I solemnly swear I am up to no good.”

Pride & Prejudice: A book that was not interesting at first, but became extremely enjoyable.

To be honest, it took me about thirty pages to become invested in “The Girl on the Train.” After reading thirty or fifty pages, I was completely engrossed. I was not going to go to sleep until I knew who the murderer was. I had picked up the book once or twice before, but had not made it past the first few chapters. Once I did, I was so happy to have found that book.

Emma: A book where two close friends fall in love.

I read “The Start of Me and You” a few months back. I really enjoyed the relationship that developed between the two main characters because they were not instantly attracted to one another. Friends first is a good motto in young adult novels.

Mansfield Park: A book with a “rags to riches” story plot.

I do not want to say “Cinderella” because that seems too obvious. Instead, I will choose, “The Selection” series. America Singer was not raised in the life of luxury. In true dystopian fashion, the world is not a place of high-end goods for commoners. To avoid spoilers, I will not reveal the ending, but I am citing America for this prompt.

Persuasion: A book involving second chances.

“The Great Gatsby!” Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby got their second chance at a life together, but sometimes things don’t work out the first time for a reason.

Northanger Abbey: Name a book with an almost overly imaginative character.

One of my all time favorites, “Alice in Wonderland!”

Another character that needs to be mentioned is Luna Lovegood. I was trying to restrict the number of “Harry Potter” references in this post, but Luna needed to be included. Love her!
